Libermann, François-Marie-Paul, Rev., Jacob, 1802-1852

Born in Saverne, Alsace, France, into an orthodox Jewish family, later embraced Catholicism and was baptised in 1824 and entered Saint-Sulpice, Paris. Ordained to the priesthood in 1841. Established the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, later being merged with the Spiritans. Declared a Servant of God in 1876, and Venerable in 1910.

Wiseman, Nicholas, Cardinal, 1802-1865

Born in Seville, the younger son of James Wiseman, of Waterford, Ireland, to where he returned age 3. In 1810 went to Ushaw College, proceeding to the VEC in 1818, being Ordained 1825. Remaining on the staff of the VEC, being appointed Vice-Rector in 1827 and Rector in 1828. In 1840 he was made Coadjutor to Bishop Walsh of the Central District and President of Oscott College. 1849 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic, then 1st Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster in 1850.
