Lilly, William Samuel, 1840-1919

Born in Fifehead, Dorset, educated at Peterhouse, Cambridge, entered the Indian Civil Service and became secretary to the government of Madras, returned to England in poor health and devoted his life to a career in literature. Received into the Catholic Church and in 1874 was appointed secretary to the Catholic Union of Great Britain.
