Born at Vich, Catalonia, joined the Dominicans, ordained 1837 at Viterbo, went as a missionary to America 1841 labouring at Kentucky and Ohio, consecrated first Bishop of Monterey 1850, first Archbishop of San Francisco in 1853, retired 1884 to Spain.
